Across hundreds of BIS applications, one pattern repeats: nine out of ten rejected applications fail at the document stage — not the technical stage. Here’s the regulator-grade checklist we use internally before any application is filed.
Identity & legal documents
- Factory Licence / Udyam Registration
- GST Registration Certificate
- PAN of the proprietor / firm
- Trademark registration or No-objection certificate from the brand owner
- Authorised signatory letter (for non-proprietor entities)
Manufacturing & process documents
- Manufacturing process flow chart (one per product family)
- Machinery list with make, model & capacity
- Layout plan of the factory — showing raw-material area, production area, QC lab and finished-goods storage
- Raw material specifications & supplier list
- Critical-component traceability for electronics (CRS)
Quality & testing documents
- In-house lab equipment list (mandatory for Scheme I)
- In-house testing records for the last 6 months
- Test report from BIS-recognised lab (mandatory for the product sample)
- Calibration certificates for QC equipment
- Quality manual or QMS documentation
Common pitfalls
Two pitfalls account for nearly half the rejections: (1) test reports from non-BIS-recognised labs, and (2) factory address mismatches between the application, the GST/Udyam record, and the trademark registration. We resolve both during the pre-application audit.
If you’re missing any of the above, that’s OK — we help you build them. Get a free document gap assessment.
